Update!
I am now taking 20mg of Simvastatin, once daily (at night).
It is the generic of Zocor. The next step is to get blood-work done in six weeks to see if it is working. Remember...my baseline LDL score was 111. Let's see how low this medicine can get it.

NEW "EDDIE VEDDER" VIDEO
Eddie wrote a song, NO MORE WAR, for a documentary called "Body of War." It's great, give it a chance! I did and I really like it, I am going to have to check out some of his other stuff.

Good luck with the drugs. I'm also high, went on a crazy, near vegan diet and am getting tested again in a month. Check amazon for "Prevent and Reverse Heart Disease" by Dr. Esselstyn.
Just picked up the feed on you blog, and not sure of the past discussion, but at 111 LDL and moving to the medication world, is it fair to assume that have some other risk factors for cardiovascular diseases. Again, not sure if you aleady covered this, but you also might be able to drive your LDL to below 100 ("optimal level" recommended by NIH) with a collection of nutrients---soluble fibers, plant sterols, monounsaturated fats in lieu of saturated fats, lower dose niacin and Omega-3s from a marine source --- that actively work to naturally manage your cholesterol. The question, of course, what are the daily therapeutic levels to be successful. As another reference, take a look at our web site, www.kardeanutrition.com . Content-rich with lots of links to primary sources and well-juried research. And yes, we also working to provide the foods and supplements that enable natural cholesterol management. I started Kardea as a personal mission to manage my cholesterol minimimize perscription medications (and hopefully avoiding the need outright). Good luck in achieving your LDL goals.
perhaps reading Dr. Duane Graveline's postings about statin drugs such as zocor might give you another point of view on the use of statin drugs. www.spacedoc.net
